Baller to Broker: My journey to the world of finance
Hi, I’m Jake Malinowski, a freshman at the University of Nevada, Reno, pursuing a degree in Business Management with plans to enter the world of finance. I’m passionate about learning how financial systems influence business decisions and everyday life.
Outside the classroom, baseball, family, and my faith in God shape who I am. Baseball has taught me discipline and teamwork, my family keeps me grounded, and my relationship with God gives me purpose and direction.
This website is a reflection of my journey — as a student, athlete, and future professional — built to share my experiences, goals, and growth both personally and academically.

Off the field and into a new one
My name is Jake Malinowski, and I’m currently a freshman at the University of Nevada, Reno, pursuing a degree in Business Management with plans to enter the world of finance after graduation. I’ve always been fascinated by the way financial systems shape the world around us, and I hope to one day work in an environment where I can help others make smart, impactful financial decisions.
Outside of school, baseball has always been one of the biggest influences in my life. The sport taught me discipline, patience, and teamwork — lessons that carry over into everything I do, whether it’s in the classroom, business, or daily life. The competitive yet collaborative nature of baseball shaped how I approach challenges and leadership opportunities.
Family also plays a huge role in who I am. I come from a big, close-knit family that keeps me grounded and reminds me what really matters. They’ve always supported me in everything I do, from my academics to my goals beyond college.
Most importantly, my relationship with God guides my purpose and perspective. Faith has helped me stay focused, humble, and grateful no matter where life takes me. It’s the foundation for how I try to live — with integrity, compassion, and the belief that hard work paired with faith can lead to something greater than ourselves.
As I continue my journey at UNR, I’m excited to keep growing personally, academically, and spiritually while working toward a career in finance that allows me to combine ambition with purpose.
Purpose of This Website
The purpose of this website is to share who I am and what I’m working toward. As a student at UNR with aspirations in finance, I wanted to create a space that highlights my education, experiences, and values — while also showing the personal side of my life. This site represents my growth both inside and outside the classroom, combining my passions for baseball, family, and faith with my professional ambitions.

Finding Balance: What Baseball and Faith Taught Me About Success
If there’s one thing I’ve learned so far in college, it’s that life moves fast — faster than I ever expected. Between classes, building connections, and planning for the future, it’s easy to get caught up in chasing the next achievement. But recently, I’ve been reminding myself to slow down and focus on what truly matters.
Baseball has always been my escape and my teacher. The sport demands discipline, patience, and a level head — traits that translate perfectly into the classroom and, one day, the finance world I hope to work in. Whether I’m standing in the batter’s box or studying late at night, I try to remember that success isn’t about perfection, but about consistency and heart.
Faith has played a huge part in helping me stay grounded. Whenever things start to feel overwhelming, I turn to God for direction and strength. My relationship with Him reminds me that everything has a purpose — even the challenges.
I’ve also come to realize how much my family’s support means. No matter what’s going on at school or work, I know I have people who believe in me. That foundation pushes me to keep growing — not just as a student or future professional, but as a person.
College is more than a step toward a career. It’s a chapter that shapes who you are. For me, that means learning how to balance ambition with gratitude — to chase goals while remembering why I started in the first place.
What others have to say
Great post, man. I relate to what you said about slowing down. It’s easy to get caught up in the grind at UNR. I’ve been trying to find that same kind of balance myself.
I really enjoyed reading this, Jake. It’s refreshing to see someone our age talk about faith and purpose alongside career goals. Baseball clearly taught you a lot about discipline — it shows in your writing too!
Proud of the growth you’ve shown, Jake. Baseball might’ve started as a game, but it’s clearly become a foundation for your mindset and work ethic. Keep that attitude — it’ll take you far.
